No. 6 Patriots Defeats Campbellsville 6-1

Williamsburg, KY – The No. 6 University of the Cumberlands Patriots men's tennis team earned a dominant 6-1 victory over Campbellsville Wednesday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. 

The Patriots took early control of the match by sweeping all three doubles contests to secure the doubles point. Darius Kuster and Gabriele Solda finished first at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 win over Elian Walther Jr. and Marco Hoerl. Kesia Roi and Manuel Fernandez Guede followed with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles against Alex Martin and Juan Ochoa to clinch the doubles point. Jacopo Cianfarini and Mohammed Abuzed Saber closed out doubles play with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Artur Yakubov and Derrick Namanya. 

Cumberlands carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matches. Darius Kuster was first off the court in singles, earning a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory over Juan Ochoa at No. 2 singles. Gabriele Solda followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles against Elian Walther Jr. 

At the top of the lineup, Jacopo Cianfarini battled back after dropping the opening set to defeat Alex Martin 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Thibaud Vivier added another point for the Patriots with a strong 6-1, 6-2 win over Fabricio Mesia at No. 4 singles. 

Campbellsville picked up its lone point at No. 5 singles, where Artur Yakubov defeated Kesia Roi in a tightly contested match that went to a match tiebreak, winning 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. 

Mohammed Abuzed Saber capped off the afternoon with a comeback victory at No. 6 singles, rallying past Mariano Orsini 1-6, 6-4, 11-9 in a match tiebreak to seal the 6-1 win for Cumberlands. 

The Patriots are back on the court on Monday, March 30, where they will travel to No. 5 Lindsey Wilson for a Top-10 conference matchup. The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
