Patriots Couldn’t Overcome Slow Start in Top-10 Matchup

Williamsburg, KY – The eighth-ranked Patriots couldn't overcome an early six goal run falling to second-ranked Keiser 20-8 Saturday afternoon the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win the Seahawks improve to 7-0 on the season, while the Patriots move to 5-5.

Dakota White led the way going 13-26 on faceoffs with eight ground balls and a goal.  Caden Abbott and Nathan Cook each tallied two goals.  JD Cook played the second half and made ten saves, while Nathan Foskey notched seven saves and a goal.

Keiser struck first, however, UC responded forcing a shot clock violation before Nathan Cook put a well-placed shot into the cage making it 1-1.  After a Seahawk goal, Jack Bichsel intercepted a pass an fired a shot into an empty net from 25 yards away tying the game at 2-2 with 6:32 remaining.  Keiser tallied six straight goals before Carter Barrett found White in front of the cage for a goal.  In the closing seconds of the quarter, Michael Adams forced a turnover and with the clocking winding down, Foskey took a full field length shot that found the back of the cage cutting the deficit to 8-4.  It marked the first career goal for both Bichsel and Foskey.

The Seahawks outscored UC 8-2 over the next two quarter extending their lead to 16-6.  JD Cook notched a trio of saves in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter.  Midway through the period Cook made a strong move and finished for a goal cutting the deficit to 17-7.  Will Rogers added a late goal for the 20-8 final.

Cumberlands returns to the field Saturday, April 4th, when they host #7 Indiana Tech.  Gametime is set for 12 p.m. with live video available here.
