Williamsburg, KY – The No. 13 University of the Cumberlands women's tennis team delivered another dominant performance on Friday afternoon, defeating Huntington 4-0 at the UC Tennis Complex. With the victory, the Patriots improve to 6-2 on the season.
Cumberlands took early control of the match by securing the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Mahiro Hara and YuFang Liu earned a 6-3 victory over Ashley Bucur and Yariange Bello. The Patriots also found success at No. 3 doubles, where Marina Nagai and Bryndis Rosa cruised to a 6-0 win against Coby Sander and Tiziana Rizzato.
In singles play, the Patriots quickly closed out the match with three strong performances. At No. 5 singles, Hara dominated with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Bucur. Haruna Kojima followed with a convincing straight-set win at No. 4 singles, defeating Rizzato 6-3, 6-0. Victoria Zarate secured the final point of the match at No. 3 singles, earning a 6-0, 7-5 victory against Addison Mast to clinch the team win.
Matches at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6 singles were left unfinished once the Patriots secured the victory.
UC will be back on the court on Monday, March 9, with a home match against #19 Cumberland (Tenn.). The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
