Williamsburg, KY – The #13 University of the Cumberlands women's tennis team fell 4-0 to Jacksonville State on Thursday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Patriots move to 5-2 on the season while Jacksonville State improves to 7-4. 

Jacksonville State set the tone early by sweeping the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Polina Ramenskaja and Aneka Patel defeated Mahiro Hara and YuFang Liu 6-2. The Gamecocks followed with another 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles as Irene Artigas and Sae Kaneko topped Victoria Zarate and Haruna Kojima. The No. 3 doubles match between Emma Le Montagner and Alba Roche and the Patriots' Marina Nagai and Bryndis Rosa was left unfinished with the score tied 4-4. 

In singles play, Jacksonville State secured three straight-set victories to clinch the match. At No. 3 singles, Irene Artigas earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Victoria Zarate. Aneka Patel followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Bryndis Rosa at the No. 2 position. The match was clinched at No. 6 singles where Sae Kaneko defeated YuFang Liu 6-4, 6-1. 

Three singles matches remained unfinished after the decision was reached. At the top spot, Marina Nagai took the opening set against Polina Ramenskaja before the match was halted. Haruna Kojima was battling Emma Le Montagner at No. 4 singles, while Mahiro Hara was competing against Alba Roche at the No. 5 position when play was stopped. 

UC will be back on the court on Friday, March 6, with a home match against RV Huntington (Ind.). The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
