Williamsburg, KY – The #12 University of the Cumberlands women's tennis team put together a dominant performance Wednesday afternoon, sweeping Midway 7-0 at the UC Tennis Complex to improve to 11-4 on the season.
The Patriots quickly secured the doubles point, taking two matches on the court while also earning a forfeit at the third position. At #1 doubles, Mahiro Hara and YuFang Liu earned a 6-2 win over Alicia Sanglas and Emma Pheiffer. Victoria Zarate and Haruna Kojima followed with a 6-1 victory at #2 doubles against Tanit Cevada Cruz and Haley Thompson. Marina Nagai and Rion Yanuma collected the final doubles point by forfeit at the #3 position.
Cumberlands carried that momentum into singles play, winning all five contested matches in straight sets. Haruna Kojima led the way at #1 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Alicia Sanglas, while Mahiro Hara secured a 6-4, 6-3 win at #2 singles against Emma Pheiffer.
At #3 singles, YuFang Liu delivered a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win over Tanit Cevada Cruz. Eva Cancarevic was equally dominant at #4 singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Haley Thompson, while Rion Yanuma matched that performance at #5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Caitlin Wright. The Patriots also received a forfeit victory at the #6 singles position to complete the sweep.
The Patriots are back on the court on Friday, April 3, where they will travel to Georgetown, Kentucky for a conference match against Georgetown. The first serve is slated for 1:00 PM.
