Cord Tosses No-Hitter as No. 20 Patriots Sweep Georgetown

Williamsburg, KY – The twentieth-ranked University of the Cumberlands swept its Saturday doubleheader against Georgetown College (Ky.), earning a 10-0 run-rule victory in game one before taking a 7-0 win in game two. The Patriots improve to 27-13 overall and 8-4 in Mid-South Conference play. 

Game 1: CORD TOSSES NO-HITTER IN RUN-RULE WIN 

Cumberlands struck early in the first inning. After Alyssa Garcia and Emily Delgado reached, Jenna Fabela drove in the first run on a fielder's choice before Kristen Smith followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. 

The Patriots broke the game open in the second inning with five runs. Taking advantage of defensive miscues and aggressive baserunning, Cumberlands extended its lead to 7-0 behind a sacrifice fly from Fabela and an RBI single from Aniyah White

Cumberlands added three more in the third when Grace Ross blasted a three-run home run to left center, pushing the lead to 10-0. 

Jessica Cord delivered a dominant performance in the circle, tossing a five-inning no-hitter while striking out five to secure the run-rule victory. 

Game 2: DELGADO, PATS COMPLETE SWEEP 

Cumberlands carried that momentum into game two, scoring twice in the first inning. Emily Delgado and Jenna Fabela each delivered sacrifice RBIs to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead. 

The Patriots added another run in the third on a sacrifice fly from Delgado to extend the advantage to 3-0. 

Cumberlands continued to build its lead in the fifth and sixth innings. Delgado added her third RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly before Kristen Smith tripled home a run. Aniyah White followed with an RBI single, and Jae Jae Phillips added an RBI double to make it 7-0. 

Emily Delgado was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just two hits to earn the win. 

Offensively, the Patriots tallied nine hits, with multi-hit performances from Delgado, White, and Phillips.

Cumberlands will return to action at home against Madonna University (Mich.) with a doubleheader scheduled for 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM in Williamsburg, KY.
