Williamsburg, KY – The #8 Patriots (35-6) completed the four-game sweep of the University of Cincinnati-Clermont on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep at Doyle Buhl Stadium. Cumberlands won game one 13-1 before erupting for a 20-0 run-rule victory in game two. The Patriots have now won 12 consecutive games.
On Senior Day, Cumberlands upperclassmen delivered standout performances, playing a key role in both victories.
No. 8 Cumberlands Rides Stewart, Seniors to 13-1 Win
The Patriots used a balanced offensive attack and a dominant outing on the mound to take game one 13-1.
Brayden Stewart earned the win, improving to 5-0 after tossing a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven.
At the plate, senior
Johnboy Rittenhouse led the way with three hits and five RBI, while
Dariel Castillo scored five runs and reached base multiple times.
Justin Veloz and senior
Pedro Vasquez each added RBI, and the Patriots capitalized on 10 walks in the contest.
Cumberlands struck first in the opening inning as Rittenhouse delivered an RBI single.
The Patriots broke the game open in the third, scoring four runs highlighted by RBI hits from Rittenhouse and Vasquez along with a sacrifice fly from
Zamaurion Hatcher.
UC added to the lead in the fourth as
Caden Petrey drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, then extended the advantage with a big fifth inning. Rittenhouse delivered a two-RBI single as part of a four-run frame to push the lead to 9-0.
Cumberlands continued to pour it on late, adding runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure the 13-1 victory.
No. 8 Cumberlands Explodes for 20-0 Senior Day Win
The Patriots capped Senior Day in dominant fashion, scoring 20 runs on 15 hits to complete the sweep.
Justin Cortez earned the win, improving to 3-0 after tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five.
JD Price and
Jaden Morris combined to finish off the shutout.
Zamaurion Hatcher,
Pedro Vasquez, and
Justin Veloz each contributed multiple hits as the Patriots controlled the game from start to finish.
Cumberlands wasted no time, scoring two runs in the first inning before exploding for six runs in the second.
Ronald Almanzar highlighted the inning with a three-run home run, while multiple Patriots contributed to the rally.
The Patriots continued to build the lead in the third and fourth innings, with
Johnboy Rittenhouse and
Caden Petrey each driving in runs.
UC broke the game wide open in the sixth inning, plating seven runs.
Canaan Browning delivered the biggest swing of the game with a grand slam, part of a dominant inning that pushed the lead to 20-0.
The Patriots will return to action Tuesday, April 14th at 3 p.m. ET at Doyle Buhl Stadium.
