Bowling Green, KY – The 2-seed University of the Cumberlands women's tennis team opened postseason play in dominant fashion on Friday afternoon, sweeping 7-seed Georgetown (Ky.) 4-0 in the Mid-South Conference Quarterfinals at the Warren County Tennis Facility. With the win, the Patriots improve to 14-4 on the season and advance to the conference semifinals.
Cumberlands set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with convincing victories on courts two and three. Victoria Zarate and Haruna Kojima cruised to a 6-0 win at #2 doubles, while Bryndis Rosa and Marina Nagai followed with a 6-0 victory at #3 doubles. The #1 doubles pairing of Mahiro Hara and YuFang Liu held a 3-2 lead before the match was halted once the point was secured.
In singles play, the Patriots continued their dominant performance, earning three straight-set wins to clinch the match. Haruna Kojima posted a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory at #4 singles, while Mahiro Hara matched that effort with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #5. YuFang Liu secured the match for Cumberlands with another 6-0, 6-0 decision at #6 singles.
The remaining singles matches were left unfinished after the Patriots clinched the victory, though Marina Nagai, Bryndis Rosa, and Victoria Zarate each held commanding leads in their respective matches.
With the win, Cumberlands moves on to the Mid-South Conference Semifinals, where they will face the 3-seed Cumberland (Tenn.) at 12:00 PM CT.
