Bowling Green, KY – The 2-Seed University of the Cumberlands men's tennis team wrapped up its postseason run on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0 to 1-Seed Lindsey Wilson in the Mid-South Conference Championship at the Warren County Tennis Facility. The Patriots finish the season at 16-8 overall.
The match began with a tightly contested doubles point, but Lindsey Wilson was able to edge out the advantage with wins on courts one and three. Jacopo Cianfarini and Mohammed Abuzed Saber dropped a 6-4 decision at #1 doubles, while Darius Kuster and Gabriele Solda fell in a narrow 7-6 battle at #3. Cumberlands earned a strong win at #2 doubles as Manuel Fernandez Guede and Kesia Roi dominated with a 6-1 victory, but the Blue Raiders secured the doubles point shortly after.
In singles play, Lindsey Wilson carried the momentum, picking up three straight-set victories to clinch the championship. Darius Kuster fell 6-4, 6-4 at #2 singles, while Gabriele Solda dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at #3. Mohammed Abuzed Saber was defeated 6-4, 6-0 at #4 singles as Lindsey Wilson sealed the match.
The remaining matches were left unfinished once the team result was decided. Jacopo Cianfarini was locked in a competitive match at #1 singles after taking the first set, while Thibaud Vivier and Kesia Roi were both battling in extended contests when play was halted.
No. 7 Patriots now sit at 16-8 overall and awaits their fate for the NAIA National Tournament, with the selection show scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 3:00 PM CT.
