#9 Patriots Capture Fourth Straight MSC Regular Season Title with 12-1 Win at Campbellsville

Campbellsville, KY – The #9 Patriots (41-7, 16-2 MSC) completed the series sweep over Campbellsville (25-21) with a 12-1 victory in the regular season finale on Friday afternoon at HIG Baseball Field. With the win, Cumberlands secured the Mid-South Conference regular season title for the fourth consecutive season.

Cumberlands totaled 12 runs on 13 hits while the pitching staff limited Campbellsville to just one run on two hits.

Justin Cortez earned the win on the mound, improving to 3-0 after tossing five innings while allowing one run on one hit and striking out seven. Brayden Stewart and Jaden Morris combined to close out the final two innings.

At the plate, Ronald Almanzar led the way with a massive performance, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI. Johnboy Rittenhouse added two hits and two RBI, while Derick Andiarena and Pedro Vasquez each contributed multiple hits.

After two scoreless innings, the Patriots broke through in the third. Clay Shelton delivered an RBI single before Andiarena followed with an RBI double. Rittenhouse capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to give UC a 3-0 lead.

Campbellsville responded with a solo home run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-1, but the Patriots answered immediately.

In the fifth inning, Almanzar launched a two-run home run to extend the lead to 5-1. Later in the frame, Vasquez added an RBI single to push the advantage to 6-1.

Cumberlands continued to build momentum in the sixth. Rittenhouse drove in a run with a double before Petrey added another RBI to make it 8-1.

The Patriots put the game away in the seventh inning. Almanzar crushed his second home run of the game, a grand slam, to cap the scoring at 12-1.

Cumberlands will enter next week's Mid-South Conference Tournament as the #1 seed and will begin play on Wednesday, April 29th in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
