Lebanon, TN – The eighteenth-ranked University of the Cumberlands closed out its regular season with a 3-2 loss to Cumberland University (Tenn.) on Friday afternoon at Billy Dee Ross Stadium. The Patriots finish the regular season at 34-16 overall and 12-6 in Mid-South Conference play.

Cumberlands broke through in the fourth inning, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and timely hitting. Kristen Smith delivered an RBI single to plate the first run before Jae Jae Phillips followed with an RBI double to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead.
The Patriots held that advantage into the sixth inning behind strong pitching, but Cumberland responded with a two-out rally, using a two-RBI single to even the score at 2-2.
Cumberlands threatened in the later innings, finishing with nine hits in the contest, but was unable to regain the lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Cumberland strung together consecutive hits, capped by a walk-off RBI single to secure the 3-2 victory.
Smith and Phillips each drove in runs for the Patriots, while Aniyah White added two hits in the game.

Cumberlands will now turn its attention to the Mid-South Conference Tournament, set for April 28 – May 2, hosted by the regular season champion.
