#8 Patriots Extend Winning Streak to Seven with Road Win at Midway

Midway, KY – The #8 Patriots (30-6) picked up their 30th win of the season while extending their winning streak to seven games with an 11-6 road victory over Midway on Tuesday afternoon at Don Ball Stadium. Cumberlands totaled 11 runs on 11 hits in the win, overcoming an early deficit with a big second inning and strong bullpen performance.

Ethan Coronel earned the win in relief, improving to 1-1 on the season after tossing three scoreless innings while striking out four. Justin Cortez secured his fourth save of the year, closing out the final four innings while allowing just one run and striking out a season-high six batters.

Andiarena led the offense with a 4-for-6 performance and three RBI, while Almanzar finished with three hits and four RBI. Castillo and Vasquez each added two RBI in the win.

Midway struck first in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI double.

The Patriots responded in a big way in the second. Pedro Vasquez drove in a run with a double before Dariel Castillo followed with a two-RBI double. Derick Andiarena added an RBI single, and Ronald Almanzar capped the inning with a two-run home run to give UC a 6-1 advantage.

Midway answered with four runs in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 6-5, but the Patriots pitching staff settled in from there.

After several scoreless innings, Cumberlands added insurance in the sixth. Andiarena delivered an RBI single before Almanzar brought home another run on a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 8-5.

The Patriots continued to add on in the eighth inning. Andiarena doubled to drive in a run, and Almanzar followed with an RBI single to push the advantage to 10-5.

UC added one final run in the ninth on a solo home run from Pedro Vasquez to make it 11-6.

Cumberlands will return to action tomorrow April 8th for another midweek road contest at Kentucky State. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET.
