Columbia, KY – The seventeenth-ranked University of the Cumberlands softball team fell to top-seeded Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) 3-2 in Mid-South Conference Tournament action on Tuesday afternoon. The Patriots move to 35-17 overall and drop into the losers bracket.
PATS DROP TIGHT BATTLE WITH TOP SEED
Cumberlands struck first in the opening inning as Emily Delgado doubled and later scored on an RBI single from MaKenzie Henderson to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
Lindsey Wilson answered immediately with a solo home run to even the score at 1-1, but the Patriots regained the lead in the second inning when Jenna Fabela launched a solo home run to make it 2-1.
Both teams settled in through the middle innings before Lindsey Wilson tied the game in the fifth on another solo home run.
The Blue Raiders took the lead in the sixth inning, using a walk and timely hitting to plate the go-ahead run and make it 3-2.
Cumberlands was unable to respond late as Lindsey Wilson held on for the one-run victory.
Fabela and Henderson each drove in runs for the Patriots, while Delgado added a double and scored a run.
