Rio Grande, OH – The #4 University of the Cumberlands men's soccer team fell 6-0 to #13 Bethel University (Ind.) Saturday afternoon at Evan E. Davis Field.
Cumberlands created an early opportunity as Rafael Torres put a shot on frame in the 11', forcing a save from the Bethel goalkeeper. The Pilots broke through in the 24' to take a 1-0 advantage. UC looked for the equalizer late in the half as Samuel Dolobaipu put back-to-back shots on frame in the 33', while Jesus Macaya had an attempt blocked in the 35'. Bethel held onto the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Pilots seized control early in the second half, scoring twice in quick succession to extend their advantage to 3-0. Cumberlands was reduced to 10 men shortly after, and Bethel added three more goals over the remainder of the match.
The Patriots continued to look for opportunities as Vinicius Serafim forced a save in the 62'. Conor McVeigh added another shot on frame in the 85', while UC earned a pair of corner kicks in the closing minutes before Bethel secured the 6-0 final.
Cumberlands returns home for the first time this season on Saturday, September 5, when the Patriots host #25 Olivet Nazarene at the UC Lacrosse/Soccer Complex in Williamsburg, KY. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
