Columbia, KY – The #10 Patriots volleyball team earned a split there two matches falling to Fisk before earning the 3-0 sweep over Blue Mountain. After those matches, UC improved to 12-3 overall on the season.
Patriots Fall to Fisk 3-1
Brynnley Bryant led the way for UC with 16 kills in the match, while
Sara Zampedri added 11 kills and six aces.
Alana Shiery notched three blocks along with nine kills, as Savannah Jolly added 33 assists and 13 digs.
Morgan Bentel tallied 11 digs in the match.
The two teams traded points to open the match until UC recorded four straight points, including a kill from
Martina Frangella to take a 6-3 lead. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 9-8 before Jolly connected with
Sara Zampedri for a kill to extend UC's lead to 10-8. Fisk tallied 8-1 run to take a 16-11 advantage. A few points later, an
Alana Shiery kill sparked a three-point Patriot run cutting the deficit to 21-20. UC got the deficit to one two more times, however, Fisk took the first set 25-22.
Cumberlands opened the second set on a 6-1 run, including a pair of aces from Zampedri. A few points later a
Brynnley Bryant kill sparked a 3-1 run to extend UC's lead to 10-5. The Bulldogs went on a 7-2 run, before a kill from Bryant gave UC a 14-12 edge. The match was tied twice before Bryant and Zampedri notched back-to-back kills to extend the lead to 19-16. After the Bulldogs evened the score Jolly connected with
Zuzanna Wolszewska for a kill putting UC in front. Cumberlands tallied the final four points of the set, capped off by a Shiery kill, to take the set 25-21.
The two teams traded runs over the next two sets, however, Fisk won both the third and fourth set 25-22 for the 3-1 final.
Patriots Earn 3-0 Win over Blue Mountain
Zampedri led the way with 17 kills, while
Martina Frangella and
Brynnley Bryant tallied 11 kills apiece.
Savanah Jolly facilitated the offense with 42 assists and seven digs as
Morgan Bentel notched a team-best eight digs.
The first set opened with the two teams tying six times, before Blue Mountain took an 8-6 lead. UC went on a 3-1 run with a pair of kills from Frangella to even the score at 9-9. After the Rams took a 12-9 lead, UC responded with a 6-1 run that included a pair of Newcom kills to take a 15-13 advantage. A few points later, Zampedri sparked a 9-0 run, with
Faith Franklin serving, to close out the set 25-16.
In the second set, Jolly connected with Bryant, Franklin and Zampedri for consecutive kills to give UC the 6-5 lead. The two teams traded runs until the Pats went on a four-point run, capped off with a kill from
Elaina Fischer to take the 13-12 lead. Blue Mountain responded taking an 18-15 advantage before UC utilized a 9-1 run with four kills from Zampedri to take a 24-19 lead. Frangella closed out the set with a kill as UC extended their lead to 2-0.
Cumberlands continued that momentum jumping out to a 5-2 lead in the third set. The two teams traded scores before
Kaytlynn Collier connected on three straight assists extending UC's lead to 16-13. The Pats added a pair of blocks before Frangella and Bryant connected with kills making it 21-16. UC closed out the set on a 4-1 run capped off with a
Zuzanna Wolszewska kill to complete the sweep.
