Williamsburg, KY – After helping their teams to strong performances on the week, goalie Kinga Hebda and receiver Cade Lamb have been named the Appalachian Wireless Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday.
Kinga Hebda earned Athlete of the Week honors after posting a clean sheet in her Patriot debut. The freshman made her first collegiate start against St. Thomas, where she notched three saves. Hebda made two saves in the first half, including one in the closing seconds ending a Bobcats scoring threat off a corner kick. In the 57' Jade Miller got behind the defense, however, Hebda made a diving stop keeping Cumberlands in front 1-0. UC went on to win the match 2-0 as Hebda earned her first win and first shutout.
Cade Lamb earned Athlete of the Week honors after a strong week in UC's win over Warner. Lamb led the Patriots with five catches for 135 yards and a touchdown. On the Patriots second drive, Drew Gregg connected with Lamb for a 41-yard reception bringing UC into the redzone. The Pats would converted a touchdown three plays later. In the second quarter Gregg for Lamb for back-to-back catches, including a 37-yard strike for a touchdown as Cumberlands extended their lead to 23-14. Lamb added a 35-yard reception in the third quarter that led to a Juan Bullard Jr. score on the next play.
