Bourbonnais, IL – The third-ranked Patriots women's soccer team scored twice in the second half to force a 2-2 draw with Olivet Nazarene Saturday afternoon. Cumberlands moves to 4-1-3 after the match.
Letizia Traversone and Laura Bosca each netted a goal in the match, while
Wakana Ose tallied an assist. Cumberlands outshot the Tigers 23-9 in the game and had a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Kinga Hebda made a pair of saves for UC.
The Tigers recorded the first shot, which sailed wide in the 4'. UC controlled the possession over the next ten minutes rattling off five shots and a corner kick, however, the game remained scoreless. Olivet Nazarene tallied a shot in the 36' that was wide, before
Wakana Ose's shot deflected off the crossbar. Both teams recorded shots in the final few minutes but couldn't convert as the teams went into the break scoreless.
Carmen Villa notched a pair of shots in the first five minutes of the second half but they just missed the mark. Olivet Nazarene converted a goal in the 50' to take the 1-0 lead. The Tigers looked to extend their lead, however,
Kinga Hebda made a save to keep it a one-goal deficit. The Patriots broke through in the 53' as Ose made a run down the left flank, crossed the ball into the box, where
Letizia Traversone made a run and converted for the equalizer. Cumberlands continued to apply pressure notching four shots and a pair of corner kicks over the next five minutes. The Pats took the lead in the 63' as Laura Bosca got behind the defense a netted a goal to put UC in front 2-1. Olivet Nazarene converted a free kick to tie the match at 2-2 in the 79'. Cumberlands looked to retake the lead as
Nicole Araujo put a shot on frame, but a diving save led to the 2-2 final.
The Patriots will return to the pitch Saturday, September 26
th, when they travel to Columbia, KY to face 12
th-ranked Lindsey Wilson. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
