Dan Sutton completed his second season as the defensive line coach and special teams coach for the Patriots after being hired during the spring of 2023.

In his second season, UC went 5-5 overall and 2-4 in Mid-South play. Coach Sutton and the defensive line helped hold opponents to 24.2 ppg and totaled 28 sacks on the season. The special teams unit was dominant once again, ranking in the top-10 in the NAIA in multiple statistical categories including kick-return avg. (3rd), field goals (6th), PAT % (1st), and avg. per punt (7th). Job Matossian earned a pair of All-Conference honorees as a kicker and punter. Coach Sutton and the Pats took down #24 Lindsey Wilson College for the first time in 11 years. 

In his first season UC went 6-4 including a ranked win against #14 Reinhardt 20-19. The Patriots special teams unit ranked in the top-20 in punts, avg per punt, and field goals. Sutton had three All-Conference honorees including Job Matossian who earned first-team honors for kicking and punting as well as All-American honors, and long snapper Trevor Pfiester.  

Sutton comes to the Bluegrass State after spending two years on the staff at West Georgia where the Wolves compiled a 17-5 record during that span.  During the 2022 season, Sutton coached outside linebackers after coaching tight ends and fullbacks during the 2021 campaign. In 2021 West Georgia was ranked 17th in total offense and eighth in the nation for passing offense.  
  
Prior to West Georgia, Sutton worked as a graduate assistant for Georgia State University, where he assisted with both defense and special teams. In 2020, he worked with Georgia State’s defensive unit who was ranked in the top 10 in the nation for sacks and takeaways. 
 
In 2018, Sutton served as an intern at Georgia Tech and has consistently been a part of successful football programs since he began coaching football.
 
Sutton is a native of DeKalb County, Georgia.  He was a walk-on linebacker at Vanderbilt University.
