Paul Pitts is entering his fourth season with the Patriots as the Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach. The past three seasons the Patriots offense exploded by scoring 35 points per game and finishing near the top of the Mid South Conference in both scoring and rushing offense.
In 2015 the Patriot offense set a high bar averaging 41 points per game, finishing second in the MSC, and sixth nationally. The Patriots witnessed the third best rushing performance in the country by averaging 342 yards a game. However, the passing game was just as proficient. Highlighted by MSC Offensive Player of the Year, Adam Craig, and Houston Texans star, Wendall Williams, the Patriots scored a touchdown on 25 percent of their passes. Not many teams were better as the passing efficiency performance was the best in the MSC and third best nationally. The success of the Patriots’ players has not gone unnoticed as eight members have been named first team All Mid South Conference since 2014. To go along with the first team members three have been named second team All MSC and two were elected to the All Commonwealth team.
Coach Pitts arrived at the University of the Cumberlands following nine years on staff at Shorter University, where in addition to coaching offensive line he also served as the Hawks’ tight ends coach, wide receivers, and recruiting coordinator. The Shorter offensive line routinely paved the way for one of the top rushing teams in the country. During the 2012 season, as Shorter transitioned to NCAA Division II, the Hawks rushed for 268 yards a game pacing the Gulf South Conference on the ground. From 2008 to 2011 the offensive line’s effort was recognized as 15 members were named to the Mid South Conference All Conference team.
Pitts is a native of Newnan, Georgia, where he graduated from East Coweta High School in 2002. He received his History and Political Science degree from Shorter University in 2007 and finished his Masters in Leadership from Shorter in 2009.
He is married to the former Abby Hogan of Cartersville, Georgia, and they have two daughters, Kennedy and Emerson Pitts.
