Barry Wellington is entering his 3
rd year as an assistant coach for the University of the Cumberlands Men's Basketball program.
Wellington, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, is a 2016 graduate of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Applied Arts & Science. He played senior season at power house Mountain State University for Bob Bolen where he became an All-American.
Due to injuries with torn Achilles, Wellington decided to start coaching at the junior college ranks at Lamar State College Port-Arthur, where he coached two Junior College All-Americans, a Region 14 Player of the Year award winner, four First-Team All-Region players, three Second-Team All-Region players. Four First-Team All- Conference players, and three Second-Team All-Conference players.
Wellington graduated from Treadwell High School, where NBA alums Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway and Elliot Perry also attended. Wellington holds accolades such as a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year honors along with two-time Best of the Preps honors while he attended Treadwell.
