Steven Silvers is entering his 3rd season as Assistant Coach of Head Coach Matt Daniel after being hired in September 2023. He holds an overall record of 52-14 through two seasons and has a 20-4 MSC record. Prior to joining Coach Daniel’s staff, Silvers spent three seasons as a Volunteer Player Development Coach under Head Coach Reeves of the Patriots Women’s basketball team. During those three seasons, Silvers trained UC standouts Kassie Monday (1st team All-American) and Kaylie Monday (All-time program leader in steals).
In his first season with the men’s team, Silvers continued to help train the Women’s team where they made it to the Final Four of the NAIA Tournament. Silvers is an alumni that graduated from Cumberlands in 2020 with a Bachelors Degree in Allied Sciences with an emphasis in Public Health and completed his Masters Degree in Health and Human Performance in 2021.
In his second season, Coach Silvers assisted in helping lead UC to a 24-9 overall record, 10-2 in MSC play, a Mid-South Regular Season Title, an NAIA First & Second Round Championship and a trip to the NAIA Final Site for the second consecutive season. He coached the MSC Player of the Year and First-Team All-American Anthony Johnson as well as the MSC Defensive Player of the Year in Tajahri Cave. Silvers role was player development where he held group workouts and scouted opponent tendencies.
In his first season, Coach Silvers assisted in helping lead UC to a 28-5 overall record, 10-2 in MSC play, a Mid-South Regular Season Title, an NAIA First & Second Round Championship, and to the NAIA Final Site Round of 16 in Kansas City, MO. The Patriots hosted the NAIA First & Second Rounds for the first time in program history, earning wins over Philander Smith and Florida College to win the Williamsburg Bracket. Coach Silvers had MSC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in Jonathan Brown and TJ Cave. He trained and guided three First-Team All-Conference players in Brown, Anthony Johnson, and J.J. Ramey. Silvers main role was player development and spent numerous hours conducting solo and group workouts to aid the team. The Patriots season concluded in the Round of 16 to Morningside 80-74.
