Garry Lewis is entering his second season as assistant men's soccer coach ahead of the 2021 season.
In his first season in Williamsburg, Lewis helped guide the team to their most successful season yet. The team finished 16-6-2 overall with a 8-2-1 conference record. The squad won the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship and went on to finish in the Quarterfinals at the NAIA Final Site. Lewis aided in an NAIA All-American, two First Team All-Conference, four Second Team All-Conference, and two Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Lewis brings international expertise to Williamsburg as an assistant coach, previously working with the Turun Palloseura (TPS) Football Club in Turka, Finland. While with TPS, he oversaw 25 members of the reserve team, organizing and conducting training sessions.
Prior to TPS, Lewis worked as the First Team Assistant for Liikunnan Riemu ry in Jyväskylä, Finland. The squad earned a promotion into the premier league in Finland after winning the 2019 Finnish Futsal Cup Championship. Lewis concurrently earned his master’s degree in Social Sciences of Sport while coaching with the university sponsored team.
Lewis played professionally for Ekenäs Idrottsförening r.f. in Tammisaari, Finland from 2010 to 2014, selected as “Man of the Match” five times. In 2014, he returned stateside after signing a contract for two seasons with the Jacksonville Armada in Florida.
While in Jacksonville, Lewis began his coaching experience as the Youth Sport Director and a head coach for the Jacksonville Armada Youth Academy for two years. During his time there, he oversaw the improvement of his U14 team from being one of the weakest in the state to a top-10 finish in the State Cup.
In addition to his professional experience, Lewis graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009, playing for the Tar Heels as well. Lewis served as the captain of his squad during his senior campaign and led them to a runner-up finish at the 2008 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
