Rick Reeves enters his 8th season as the Head Coach of the University of the Cumberlands Women’s Basketball program. Reeves has led UC to a record of 143-72 (64-48 MSC), highlighted by five consecutive NAIA Tournament appearances.
Cumberlands has won at least 20+ wins in each of the past four years, including compiling a 26-6 record during the 2024-25 season. The Patriots posted a 10-2 MSC regular season mark, to capture the first MSC title since the 20211-12 season. UC went on to win two games at the NAIA National Tournament and advance to the NAIA Final Site for the third straight year.
During the 2023-24 season, Coach Reeves guided the Patriots to a 26-10 record, advancing to the MSC Championship game, before they won four straight games during the NAIA Tournament to win the Duer Quadrant and advance to the Fab Four for the first time in program history. It also marked the first time UC hosted the NAIA Opening Round, where they compiled a 2-0 record to advance to the NAIA Final Site.
In 2019-20, Reeves led the Patriots to 19 wins for the first time since the 2013-14 season. On October 25th, Reeves picked up his 500th career win as a coach following the Patriots victory over Florida National.
Reeves comes to UC after spending 14 years on the sidelines at Gardner-Webb University. He compiled a program best 216 wins as the Head Coach of the Running Bulldogs and has compiled a 483-456 career record.
Reeves, a four-time Big South Coach of the Year, is the only coach in Big South history to have led two conference members to the NCAA tournament and ranks second in the Big South in overall wins (280) and conference wins (152). He has guided his teams to six postseason appearances at the NCAA Division I level, including four NCAA Tournament berths.
In addition to his post season experience, Reeves as guided his teams to three Big South regular season championships, four Big South tournament championships, and eight conference tournament championships appearances.
In addition to his success on the court, Reeves players have shined in the classroom as well. In 2017-18, Gardner-Webb posted the 15th-highest team GPA in the NCAA and Reeves has graduated every player that has exhausted their eligibility over his 32 year coaching career.
Reeves does bring some NAIA experience with him as he began his collegiate coaching career as Brescia College's first head women's basketball coach. Reeves also spent three years as the head coach at Cumberland University, guiding the team to three top-20 finishes.
Reeves is married to the former Ramona Parnell of Columbia, Kentucky. The couple has two daughters, Kim Brewton, a former GWU assistant coach and current assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State, and Krystal Reeves-Evans, former GWU assistant and current head coach at Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. The Reeves' also have six grandchildren: Grace, Kalyn, Braylee, Britton, Brielle, and Gabriel.
