Ryan Shavers earned athlete of the week honors after leading the Patriots to a perfect 5-0 record on the week. The Chesapeake, VA native went 9-15 on the week for a .600 batting average with four homers, 12 RBI and nine run scored. Shavers opened the week against Johnson, where he blasted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give UC a 6-4 lead in game two. He finished the day with three RBI and three run scored. In the conference series against Bethel, the senior recorded seven hits and four runs scored. Shavers scored twice in the series opener, before hitting a sac fly to left in the third inning of game two to put UC in front 1-0. The senior added a two-run homer later in the game as UC went on for the 6-0 win. He saved his best performance for last as he went 4-4 with a pair of homers and six RBI in the series finale. After tallying two hits and a pair of RBI’s, Shavers blasted a two-run bomb to left-center field in the seventh to tie the game at 11-11. The next inning, the senior added another two-run blast extending Cumberlands lead to 15-11 as they went on to sweep the Wildcats.
