Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville, ranked 14
th in the NAIA coaches' poll, scored three second half goals to defeat the University of the Cumberlands men's soccer team 3-0 on Tuesday night at Finley Stadium. With the loss the Patriots fall to 7-5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference, while the Tigers improve to 10-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in conference.
Cumberlands recorded the first shot of the game as
Zach Wallace took a shot that went wide just over three minutes into the first half. After Wallace's missed shot, Campbellsville gained control firing two shots on frame, in a four minutes span, but
Ahmed Ghatwary made a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless. The Tigers offensive kept the pressure on UC's back line as they tallied seven unanswered shots, none of which were on target, over the course of the next 28 minutes. The Patriots best opportunity came in the 44' minute when Wallace took a shot, but the Tigers' goalkeeper Andreas Nota was there for the save to keep the game scoreless at half.
Campbellsville control the ball for majority of the second half, outshooting the Patriots 16-0 over the final 45 minutes. Midway through the half, the Tigers had posted six shots, but a pair of Ghatwary saves kept the game scorelss with 18:25 remaining. Minutes later Campbellsville got on the board as Thom Edge connected with Yudai Yamauchi to put the Tigers up 1-0 in the 74' minute. Five minutes later, Yamauchi was able to find the back of the net again this time off an assist from Rickard Hallin to extend the Tigers lead to 2-0. Ghatwary made his fifth and final save before Campbellsville added a goal in the 85' minute for the 3-0 final.
The Patriots will return to action Friday, October 20, when they travel to Columbia, KY to take on 11
