Campbellsville, KY – Breanna Baptiste's goal in the 50
th minute proved to be the difference as the University of the Cumberlands Women's Soccer Team fell to Campbellsville 1-0 in Mid-South Conference action, Tuesday night at Finley Stadium. With the win the Tigers improve to 5-9-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the MSC while the Patriots fall to 6-7-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.
The Patriots looked to get on the board two minutes into the game as
Alexis Dreier put a header on goal, but Campbellsville was there for the save. UC added a pair of shots over the next ten minutes but neither was on target. The two teams traded possessions until the 18' minute when
Emily Willoughby fired a shot towards the goal which was saved by Amanda Howard. Two minutes later,
Christie Funk saved a Lakin Walls shot to keep the game scoreless with 24:50 remaining in the first half. The Tigers recorded three more shots before the
Sara Randez shot was saved to keep the game scoreless at the break.
Cumberlands was forced into a defensive stance as the Tigers outshot the Patriots 8-1 in the second half. Five minutes into the second half, Baptiste got behind the UC backline and lobbed a shot into the goal to give Campbellsville the 1-0 lead. The Tigers tallied a pair of shots over the next ten minutes, neither of which were on frame, before
Alexis Kingsley shot sailed over the crossbar in the 69' to keep the score 1-0. The Tigers recorded the final five shots of the contest, none of which were on target for the 1-0 final.
The Patriots will return to action Friday, October 20, when they travel to Columbia, KY to take on 23
rd-ranked Lindsey Wilson. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. and live video is available
