Women’s Soccer Fall to Bulldogs in Non-Conference Action

Williamsburg, KY – Taking a break from Mid-South Conference action, the UC Women's Soccer Team dropped its final non-conference game 4-0 to Tennessee Wesleyan Tuesday night at the UC Soccer Complex. With the win the Bulldogs improve to 9-4-2, while the Patriots fall to 7-8-1.
The Patriots were forced into a defensive stance early as Chloe Rootes got behind the backline, but Christie Funk made a diving save to prevent the goal.  Funk recorded two more saves in a 30 second span to keep the game scoreless with 37:54 remaining in the first half.  Two minutes later, Hannah Truckenmiller sent a cross to Jody LeMaster who one-touched it towards the goal, but McKenna Loges was there for the save.  The two teams traded shots over the next 15 minutes with neither able to convert.   It looked like the Bulldogs were going to score in the 28' minute as Nicole Broderick put a ball past Funk, but Rachel Palazzo was there for the team save to keep the game tied. The game remained scoreless until the 35th minute when Siobhan Patterson sent the ball forward to Broderick for the goal to five Tennessee Wesleyan a 1-0 lead.  UC looked for the equalizer as Alexis Dreier put a shot on target, but Loges was there for the save to keep the score 1-0 at the break.
Tennessee Wesleyan continued their offensive pressure in the second half as Dayna Randall connected with Lauren Cunningham for a goal in the 53' minute. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-0 as Broderick netted her second goal of the game, 31 seconds later.  UC continued to fight as Emily Willoughby got behind the defensive, but her shot ricochet off the post.  The score remained 3-0 until the 81' minute when Emiley Saddler connected with the back of the net for a goal to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.  Cumberlands looked to get on the board in the 88' minute but Sara Randez's shot was saved by Loges, who recorded a game-high six saves.
The Patriots will return to action Saturday, October 28, when they host Georgetown in their regular season finale. The game is slated for 5 p.m. at the UC Soccer Complex and live video is available here, while live stats are available here.  Prior to the start of the game UC will honor their four seniors on this year's squad.
