Williamsburg, KY - Aleksa Blagojevic netted two goals for the third time this season as the University of the Cumberlands men's soccer team defeated Georgetown College 4-2 on senior night. With the win the Patriots improve to 8-6-3 overall and 4-3 in Mid-South Conference play, while the Tigers fall to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Both teams fired shots early, but all missing the goal until the 34' minute when Nicklas Nancke was able to get a shot on goal that was saved by Patrick Schwarz to keep the Patriots off the board. Four minutes later Blagojevic would find the goal as well, but again Schwarz was there to make the save. In the 19' minute Blagojevic passed it to Joel Drewery who crossed it to Joel Caldwell who hit the back of the net to put the Patriots ahead 1-0. The Tigers back line was able to keep the Patriots to one goal in the first half to leave the score at half 1-0.
Georgetown's Nick Gregory scored the equalizer for the Tigers as Ahmed Ghatwary left the goal open to put the score at 1-1 in the 49' minute. Three minutes later, Drewery was taken down in the box by Schwarz which set up UC's first penalty kick of the season. Blagojevic converted the PK into the leftside of the goal to put the Patriots ahead 2-1. Cumberlands recorded three shots and three cornerkicks over the course of the next ten minutes but were unable to convert. The score remained 2-1 until the 63' minute when Nancke was able to get his second goal of the season with the help of Caldwell to extend UC's lead 3-1 . Two minutes later, Max Aken-Tyers connected with Blagojevic for a goal to extend the lead to 4-1. The Tigers' Gregory scored the last goal of the game in the 71' minute to put the final score at 4-2.
With the win, Cumberlands clinches the fourth seed in the Mid-South Confernece Tournament and will face Life in the quarterfinals on Thursday, November 2, at 1:00 p.m. at Warren Central High School in Bowling Green, KY.
