Denmark, SC – A huge surge early from the Patriot ladies coupled with prolific shooting off their bench would be the difference as Cumberlands would earn their fourth straight victory of the season, defeating the Tigers of Voorhees by a final score of 53-42. The win pushes the Patriots' overall record this year to 4-1.
UC would outscore Voorhees 18-2 in the first quarter of play and never look back. Although holding just a 28-21 lead at the half, UC would come out in the third and double-up the Tigers 18-9 in the quarter on their way to an 11-point victory on the day.
The Patriots' bench scored 27 points in the contest with
Ashley Jackson leading all scorers with 15 points, going 5-6 from behind the arc in the contest, along with seven rebounds.
Alani Fisher had a solid showing as well, adding nine points and seven assists in the win.
Kayla Bruner also chipped in nine points while tabbing three steals and two rebounds.
Cumberlands would shoot just under 35% from the floor and 38% from deep, but it was 7-8 shooting from the charity stripe that stood out for UC. Voorhees shot just over 30% from the field, led by Ladazha Cole with 15 points.
The Patriot ladies stay on the road on Saturday, November 18
th as they go to Sumter, South Carolina to take on Morris College. Tip-off is slated for 4 pm.
