Williamsburg, KY – Stellar defense coupled with outstanding shooting from the field helped vault the Patriots to a 69 point win over Voorhees on Sunday 92-23. UC set a new school record for largest margin at halftime in the game as they led the Tigers 52-6 at the break. The Patriots now move to 9-2 overall on the season with the victory.
In the first quarter, UC's defense was dominating. The Patriots began the game on an 18-0 run over the first 8:20 of the game, including seven points each for
Jasmine Rhodes and
Cheyenne Madden. The Tigers broke the run with 1:21 to play in the quarter on their first basket of the contest. UC would increase their lead to 23-2 at the end of the period with five more points from Rhodes for 12 in the first.
The second was much of the same as UC continued their impressive performance. The Patriots outscored the Tigers 29-4 in the frame including seven threes, five from
Ashley Jackson including a buzzer-beater at the end of the half.
Megan Morton added two threes of her own as UC led Voorhees 52-6 at the half.
In the third, Voorhees would have its most productive quarter offensively, but still could not break double-figures in the period. Jackson would score five more in the quarter, including her sixth from beyond the arc, along with five from
Shayla Simpson as UC would push the lead out to 57 at the end of the third with the score 72-15. The final 10 minutes of play was icing on the cake for the Patriots as they would pull away for the 92-23 win over Voorhees. The 69 point win is the largest margin of victory for UC since December 30, 2007 when they defeated Temple Baptist 99-17 on the road. It was the largest win at home since November 2, 2007 when UC defeated IU-Northwest 93-15.
Ashley Jackson set new career highs in both three pointers (7-9 3PT) and scoring as she netted 23 points with one rebound and one steal.
Jasmine Rhodes also set a new career high in scoring with 19 points (7-9 FG) coupled with five rebounds, and five assists.
Cheyenne Madden chipped in with 13 points on 5-7 shooting with six rebounds and five steals.
Megan Morton added 11 points off the bench with five rebounds and three assists.
The Patriots set a number of season highs in the game including points (92), field goals made and field goal percentage (34-62 for 54.8%), three pointers made (14-24), assists (28), and steals (18). UC also forced a season best 34 turnovers in the game, which they scored 36 points off of.
UC's final game of the semester comes on Monday, December 18
th as they travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to take on Point Park University. Tip-off is set for 1 pm.
