Elizabethton, TN – The University of the Cumberlands men's soccer team kicked off their season by overcoming an early deficit to force a 1-1 draw in double overtime against Milligan College Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. UC starts the season at 0-0-1, with the Buffaloes having the same record.
In the first half the Patriots
Nicklas Nancke was the first to take a shot, but he missed wide. UC would try to score four more times before Milligan's Rhys Borror scored the first goal of the game in the 36' minute in the first half to put the Buffaloes up 1-0 going in to half time.
In the second half the Patriots were able to get on the board after getting a goal on a set piece, as
Aleksa Blagojevic header was deflected by a Milligan defender into their own net to tie the game at one a piece in the 65' minute. UC looked to take the lead in the final minutes of regulation as
Filip Milivojevic fired two shots on frame, but Milligan's goalie Nick Smith made the saves to force overtime.
Both teams came out strong in the first overtime as they each tallied a pair of shots on goal , but both goalies came up with the saves to keep the game tied. With time winding down in the second overtime Blagojevic got behind the defense and crossed it to Milivojevic, who fired a shot from eight yards out but Smith made the diving save to force the draw.
Offensively UC was led by Milivojevic, who led the team with eight shots on goal, followed by
Brandon Scherr , Blagojevic, and Nancke who each had one apiece.
Blagoje Tokovic,
Joel Caldwell, and Aken-Tyers all had one shot and Balgojevic had two. The Patriots outshot the Buffaloes 15-8 in the contest.
Goalie
Ahmed Ghatwary finished with three saves; while the Patriots defense recorded one team save.
The Patriot will return to the pitch Friday, August 25 as they will take on 21
st ranked Georgia Gwinnett College at Union College at 5:00 p.m.
