Barbourville, KY - The University of the Cumberlands' men's soccer team took their first loss on Friday night to 21
st-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College 1-0. The game started an hour late due to the first game running a little over and the Grizzlies getting stuck in traffic.
In the first half the Patriots battled it out with the Grizzlies for a scoreless game after 45 minutes.
Ahmed Ghatwary made three of his five saves in the half. One of the saves came in the 30' minute of play when Ghatwary punched out the ball off a Carlos Delarosa shot. The ball was in possession of Georgia Gwinnett most of the first half with exception of a kick towards the goal by
Filip Milivojevic at about 40 seconds left in the half. The Patriots backline held the Grizzlies to three shots on goal in the half.
In the second half Cumberlands was able to get the ball down with two shots coming from Balgoje Tokovic, but UC was unable to convert the shots into a goal. Georgia Gwinnett's Krishna Clarke kicked the only goal of the contest to secure the 1-0 win in the 81
st minute and give the Patriots their first loss of the season.
UC was outshot by the Grizzlies 10-2 and Ghatwary recorded five saves on the night.
With the win Georgia Gwinnett improves to 1-0, while Cumberlands falls to 0-1-1.
The Patriots will look to rebound from the loss as they take on Calumet College of St. Joseph at 4 p.m. at Union College.
