Barbourville, KY - The University of the Cumberlands men's soccer team avenged their loss against Georgia Gwinnett, by beating Calumet College of St. Joseph 2-1 on Saturday evening. With the win UC improves to 1-1-1, while the Crimson Waves fall to 0-2.
In the first half the Patriots started off strong with a goal in the 13' minute by
Zach Wallace assisted by Aleska Blagojevic to put UC up 1-0.
Ahmed Ghatwary made one diving save in the first half to keep the Crimson Wave off the board going into the half.
Playing man-down for the final 30 minutes of the game, the Patriots defensive continued to push the ball. In the 63' minute Calumet tied up the game at one with a goal by James Meehan. Cumberlands responded six minutes later as
Filip Milivojevic netted an unassisted goal to give the Patriots the 2-1 lead. The Crimson Wave took four shots down the stretch but UC's back line kept them out of goal for the 2-1 final.
Despite the win for UC, Calumet out shot Cumberlands 14-7. Ghatwary finished the game with two saves, while Milivojevic led the way for the Patriots with two shots on goal and one goal.
Joel Drewery had two shots and one on goal, Wallace had one goal, and Rullow had one assist.
Cumberlands will return to action in their home opener Saturday, September 2
, at 1 p.m. against 13
th- ranked Midland University.
