Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Patriots upset 13th-Ranked Warriors 2-1

Williamsburg, KYFilip Milivojevic netted two goals, including the game winner in the 79' minute, to lead the University of the Cumberlands Men's Soccer Team to a 2-1 upset over 13th-ranked Midland Saturday afternoon at the UC Soccer Complex. With the win the Patriots improve to 2-1-1 on the season while the Warriors fall to 2-1.

The Warriors started firing shots early with a shot by Conor McFadden that was saved by Ahmed Ghatwary in the fifth minute of the game. The save by Ghatwary would be his first of three saves of the afternoon. The Patriots followed suit firing two shots of their own.  UC controlled the ball for majority of the first half and took the final five shots of the period, but weren't able to convert keeping the game scoreless at halftime. Cumberlands best offensive chances came from Nicklas Nancke and Joel Drewery who each fired a shot on frame.

The Patriots carried the momentum into the second half as they continued to control possession.  The game remained scoreless until the 62' minute when Drewery passed it to Milivojevic, who fired a shot to the top left corner of the net to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. About 10 minutes after the Patriots goal, the Warriors tied up the game with an equalizer by Nathan Mathias. UC looked for a quick answer as Nahshon Rullow and Joel Caldwell each put a shot on goal, but Midland's Shazz Heale made a pair of saves to keep the game even.  The Patriots capitalized on a Warriors' penalty as Milivojevic fired a free kick from 22 yards out past the goalie to give Cumberlands a 2-1 lead in the 79' minute. Midland looked to tie the game in the closing minutes but Robert Wiseman's shot went wide giving UC the 2-1 win.

The win marks the program's first win over a NAIA top-15 opponent under Head Coach Chris LeFevre. Cumberlands outshot Midland 17-8 in the contest. Milivojevic finished the afternoon with two goals on three shots, while Drewery had three shots with two of them on goal and one assist.

The Patriots will return to action on Monday, September 4, at 3:30 p.m. at the UC Soccer Complex when they will face Huntington University. Live video of the game will be available here, while live stats are available here.
