Williamsburg, KY - The University of the Cumberlands Men's Soccer Team had four different players score a goal as the Patriots defeated Brescia 4-0 Saturday night at the UC Soccer Complex. UC's first shutout of the season improves the Patriots record to 3-2-2 while the Bearcats fall to 2-5.
UC struck first as
Max Aken-Tyers found
Filip Milivojevic in the box for a goal to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead with 42:25 remaining in the first half. Minutes later, Cumberlands looked to extend their lead as Milivojevic put another shot on frame, but Jacob Stanley made the save. The Patriots back line limited Brescia to just five shots in the first half, two of which were saved by
Ahmed Ghatwary to keep the score 1-0 at the halftime.
The Bearcats looked even the score three minutes into the second half as Karim Ndoye had an open net shot, but it deflected off the crossbar keeping the score 1-0. Three minutes later, Milivojevic would find
Aleksa Blagojevic just out side the box and he fired a shot just inside the far post for a goal to give UC the 2-0 lead in the 50' minute. Shortly after Blagojevic goal, he connected with Aken-Tyers for a goal to put the Patriots up 3-0. The Bearcats tried to rally, controlling the ball on their offensive half of the field for majority of the final 30 minutes. Brescia best opportunity came in the 79
th minute as Kerby Edme put a shot on goal, but Ghatwary was there for the save to keep the Bearcats off the board. The score remained 3-0 until the 82' minute when Zach Wallace split two defenders and fired a shot into the back of the net for a goal to give UC the 4-0 win.
Milivojevic, Blagojevic, and Aken-Tyers each tallied a goal and an assist in the game, while Wallace netted his second goal of the season. Ghatwary finished with three saves in the shutout. UC's four goals were the most goals the Patriots have scored in a game since October 15, 2016 when they score five goals in a 5-0 win against Pikeville.
Cumberlands will take the field again on Tuesday, September 19 in Wilmore, KY as they face Asbury University at 7:00 p.m.
