Georgetown, KY – The UC Men's Tennis Team had two singles player and one doubles team reached the round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championship Friday afternoon.
Ninth-seed
Aatu Merenheimo defeated Rodrigo Huarachi of Bluefield 6-0, 6-3 in the third round match-up. Merenheimo advanced to the round of 16 where he faced Riccardo Ferraris of Cumberland. In that match, Merenheimo won the first set 6-3 before dropping the next two sets 7-6, 1-0.
After upsetting the fifth-seed in the second round, Louis Montull continued his strong play against Stephen Espinoza of Lindsey Wilson. Montull dropped the first set 4-6, before rallying to win the second set 6-2. Espinoza retired in the third set allowing Montull to advance to the round of 16. Montull ultimately fell to ninth-seed Nico Galleguillo of Martin Methodist.
Rodrigo Aguiar and
Eric Banoub both dropped their third round match in straight sets. Aguiar fell to top-seeded Denis Porcic of Lindsey Wilson 6-1, 6-0, while Banoub lost to Choopat Suvimolstean of Asbury 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action Aguiar and Montull teamed up battled Reyes/Castro of Campbellsville in the third round, but fell 5-8 to be eliminated.
The Patriots will return the court Saturday, October 7, when they host the UC Invite at the UC Tennis Complex.
