Williamsburg, KY – After a back and forth battle for three quarters of play, the UC Women's Basketball team would fall victim to an early fourth quarter run by the NAIA third-ranked Campbellsville University Tigers as UC would fall 69-60. The loss snaps Cumberlands' five game win streak and moves the Patriots to 12-3 on the season and 1-1 in Mid-South Conference play.
After trading baskets to a 6-6 tie, the Tigers would go on an 8-0 run to take a 14-6 lead. UC would attempt to cut into the lead, but Campbellsville would hold steady ending the first quarter up 21-13. CU would get their largest lead of the game in the second quarter at 27-16, but UC would then go on a 9-0 run to close the lead to 27-25 with just over three minutes to play in the half. Both teams would catch fire late in the half, but the Tigers would go to the locker room up three at 37-34.
In the third, UC would see a strong start as they would battle to tie the game up at 43-43 midway through the quarter. The two teams would trade baskets yet again to close out the quarter tied at 50. The fourth though was controlled early by the Tigers. A 9-2 run by Campbellsville would push them ahead 61-52 with 7:30 left to play. UC would do everything they could to cut back into the lead, but it was not enough as the Tigers would come away with a 69-60 win over the Patriots.
Alani Fisher would come off the bench with a hot hand to lead the Patriots in scoring, going 6-8 from beyond the arc for 18 points with two assists, a steal, and a rebound.
Cheyenne Madden added 11 points and six rebounds in the loss.
Shayla Simpson was also solid pitching in eight points, six assists, and four rebounds.
UC now turns their attention to the weekend as they travel north for more MSC play as they take on the Tigers of Georgetown College. Tip-off is currently scheduled for 2 pm.
