Second Half Surge Sends Patriots to Win over Brescia

Williamsburg, KY – After holding a slim lead at halftime over the Bearcats, the UC Women's Basketball team used a strong second half surge to take down Brescia University for a second time this season, this meeting by a final score of 62-47. The win gives UC their fourth straight win and moves their overall record to 11-2 on the season.

The two squads would exchange baskets for the majority of the first quarter, but a basket by Kayla Bruner and a free throw from Callia Cropp would give UC a slim lead at 10-7 after ten minutes of play. In the second quarter, Brescia would come out firing and garner their largest lead of the game at 15-12 with 3:34 to play in the half. The Patriots would outscore Brescia 9-5 the rest of the quarter to take a 21-19 lead to halftime.

The third quarter is where the Patriots really began to find their groove. Scoring the first eight points of the quarter, UC would jump out to a 29-19 lead with 6:54 to play in the third. The Bearcats would get it back to a three-point deficit at 31-28 later in the quarter, but the Patriots would finish the frame on a 15-6 run to take a 46-34 lead into the fourth. There, UC would continue to hold on to their lead and even extend it a bit as they would come away with the 62-47 win.

Cheyenne Madden would lead the way for UC with 24 points and five rebounds. Shayla Simpson (4-8 3 PT) added 17 points, three rebounds, and three steals in the win. Jasmine Rhodes chipped in seven points while hauling in 13 rebounds on the night.
