Rhodes, Madden Drop Double-Doubles in Victory over Running Eagles

Williamsburg, KY – A pair of strong performances coupled with tenacious rebounding would spell success for the UC Women's Basketball team on Saturday with a 73-61 victory over Life University. UC would trail after the first quarter, but would gain the lead with a huge second quarter and never relinquish it. The win moves the Patriots to 12-2 overall on the season and 1-0 in Mid-South Conference play.
 
UC would jump out to a five point lead in the first quarter with the score 10-5, but a 9-0 run for Life would push the Running Eagles out to a 14-10 lead as they would hold a slim margin over the Patriots 18-15. The second quarter though was owned by UC. The Patriots would outscore Life 25-9 in the period behind nine points in the frame from Shayla Simpson to take a 40-27 lead at the half.
 
Life would nearly double the Patriots up in the third quarter by a 20-11 margin, but UC would continue to hold the lead at 51-47 entering the final period. There, the Running Eagles would never get closer than five as UC would use good free throw shooting to secure a 12 point win over Life.
 
Cheyenne Madden would lead the Patriots on the day with her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 22 points to go with her 14 rebounds. Jasmine Rhodes would also ink her first double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Simpson pitched in 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists today.
 
UC shot 36.8% from the floor while shooting 26-34 (76.5%) from the charity stripe. The Patriots outrebounded Life 52-36 on the day with 22 of UC's rebounds coming on the offensive end, where they netted 19 second chance points. Life scored 34 points off the bench while shooting 30.4% from the field in the game.
 
The Patriots return to the O. Wayne Rollins Center on Thursday, January 11th as they host the Tigers of Campbellsville University for a Mid-South Conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
