Box Score Richmond, KY – UC men's tennis dropped their 2018 season opener to 7-0 to Eastern Kentucky Saturday morning at the Greg Adams Tennis Center. With the win the Colonels improve to 1-3, while the Patriots drop to 0-1.
Eastern Kentucky tallied 6-2 wins at both #1 and #2 doubles to earn the doubles point at take a 1-0 lead. At #3 doubles,
Patrick Oliveira and
Martin Barbier faced Guillem Sanchis and Josh Piunti. The match went back-and-forth with the teams trading points until it was tied 6-6. Sanchis and Piunti won the tie breaker to win the match 7-6 and sweep doubles.
In singles play, the Patriots put up a fight at each spot but ultimately lost for the 7-0 final. Barbier took on Ramon van Flymen at #1 and earned a tallied four points in both sets before falling 6-4, 6-4.
Aatu Merenheimo fell at #2 singles 6-1, 6-3, while
Yusuke Matsuoka dropped #3 singles 6-2, 6-2. The Colonels won the final three matches in straight sets.
The Patriots return to the court Saturday, February 3, when they travel to Harrogate, TN to take on NCAA DII foe Lincoln Memorial. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
