Patriots Suffers Setback to Tigers

Williamsburg, KY – UC Volleyball team dropped a Mid-South Conference match 3-0 (15-25, 18-25, 23-25) to Campbellsville Tuesday night at the UC Volleyball Gym.  With the win the Tigers improve to 16-8 and 7-2 against the MSC while the Patriots fall to 16-9 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

UC jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first set, taking advantage of Tigers miscues and Lily Chapman notching one of her two service aces of the match.  Campbellsville responded with a 17-2 run of their own to take an 18-7 lead.  Lynsey Short connected with Megan Jackson for a kill to cut into the deficit, however the Tigers extended their lead to 21-9.  Chapman record a kill, which sparked 5-1 run by UC, cutting the deficit to 22-14, however that was the closest the Patriots got as Campbellsville took the first set 25-15.

It was a similar story in the second half as the Patriots couldn't overcome a seven point run by the Tigers, who took the second set 25-18.  In the third set, Campbellsville took an early lead but Ashley Sobocinski and Jackson combined for a block to tie the match 5-5.  The match was tied three more times, before a kill from Abbie Genders spark a Patriots rally to take a 13-12 lead.  The two teams traded points until the Tigers tallied four straight to take an 18-15 lead.  Cumberlands responded with a 6-2 run, which included a pair of Genders kill to give UC a 21-20 lead.  The two teams traded points twice before the Tigers tallied three straight points to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

Leading the way for the Patriots was Short, who tallied 20 assists and seven digs.  Tara Routliffe notched a team-high 16 digs, while Jen Stein and Rachel Scott finished with seven digs apiece.   Koch lead the offense with seven kills as Sobocinski chipped in six kills and 12 digs.

The Patriots will return to action Thursday, October 18, when they travel to Georgetown, KY to face the Tigers at 7 p.m. Live stats for the game will be available here.
