Late Goal Helps UC Tie the 13th-ranked Blue Raiders

Williamsburg, KY –  Savvy second half play would prove to be crucial as Hannah Truckenmiler would score an equalizer in 88th minute as UC would earn a 2-2 draw against the 13th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders (3-3-2, MSC 1-0-1). The Patriots (10-1-1, 1-0-1 MSC) were aided by a great defensive effort by goalkeeper Christie Funk who tallied a season high eight saves in the match.
 
From the first whistle UC looked to get on the board early from a shot I rene Medina but were unable to succeed. Lindsey took control shortly after, firing two shots neither finding the back of the net. Play continued back-and-forth with three shots each. In the 26' minute Emily Willoughby dribbled up the sideline crossed to Jenna Rockwell who found the lower left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Pats looked to add an insurance goal shortly after but unsuccessful. Right before the half Lindsey Wilson's Yvonne Ploeg scored from a Hannah Schrage assist for the 1-1 tie going into halftime.
 
After the break both teams came out strong to score the go-ahead goal. The Blue Raiders out-shot the Pats 4-1 for the first 20 minutes of the second half. UC had many chances to score when they that three corner-kicks in a row, however unable to connect. Lindsey scored the go-ahead goal off a deflection off a UC defender for the 2-1 lead. Patriots continued their strong play as Shelby Little crossed the ball into the box to Truckenmiller who volleyed a shot over the goalies head, pushing the score to 2-2 at the end of regulation.
 
Going into the first overtime period UC outshot the Raiders 5-2 however, no one could score the golden goal for the win. The second overtime Rockwell fired two quick shots to give UC the win, however both were saved by Lindsey's goalie Jovana Ivanovic. After 110 minutes of play the final score of 2-2.
 
Rockwell notched her ninth goal of the season in the match, Truckenmiller garnered a career high fourth goal.
 
Patriots return to the pitch Saturday, October 6th when they take on MSC team University of the Pikeville. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the UC Lacrosse/Soccer Complex. Live stats are available here while live video is available here.
