Men’s Soccer Edged 2-0 by Sixth-Ranked Lindsey Wilson

Williamsburg, KY – University of the Cumberlands men's soccer was edged 2-0 by sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson College in a Mid-South Conference match on Tuesday night at the UC Lacrosse/Soccer Complex.

Cumberlands (4-2-2, 1-1-0 MSC) was the aggressor for much of the first half — outshooting Lindsey Wilson (8-1-1, 1-1-0 MSC) 12-5, including 5-2 in shots on goal. However, the Patriots were unable to convert on their chances. Marvin van der Made had the best scoring chance of the half for UC in the seventh minute when he fired a hard low shot at Lindsey Wilson's goalkeeper Noah Slepicka (5-1-0). The ball looked like it might get behind Slepicka, but he got enough of it to make the stop. Later in the half, Joel Drewery had an opportunity as he streaked down the far side of the field but his shot went wide. Sergio Infantes would also have a scoring opportunity with just over one minute remaining in the half but his shot also went wide. While the Patriots did not capitalize on their chances, the Blue Raiders converted on a scoring opportunity to take a 1-0 lead going into halftime. In the 21' minute, Patriot goalkeeper Clement May (3-2-2) came out for a ball and dove to grab it. However, May was unable to hold on as a Patriot defender and Renan Ramos of Lindsey Wilson ran by. Ramos possessed the ball and scored into the empty net.

After halftime, the Patriots were unable to get as many chances as they had in the first half. Cumberlands was outshot 9-4 in the final 45 minutes, including 6-0 in shots on goal. Alejandro Gonzalez made a run with under 27 minutes remaining, but was unable to run onto the ball before Slepicka. Then a couple of minutes later, Joel Caldwell had a header that went wide. UC was unable to get any closer and Lindsey Wilson would add an insurance goal in the 83' minute. Ramos crossed the ball from the right side of the field into the top of the 18-yard box. Israel Reyna headed the cross forward to Andrew Revanales, who finished past May to make the final score 2-0.

May made six saves in the match, while Slepicka stopped six shots to earn the shutout.

Sergio Infantes led the Patriots with six shots, including two on goal.

The Patriots continue MSC play against Pikeville at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 6 at the UC Lacrosse/Soccer Complex. Live video is available here, while live stats are available here.
