Portsmouth, OH – Sergio Infantes scored twice to propel (RV) University of the Cumberlands men's soccer to a 3-1 win over Shawnee State University in Mid-South Conference action on Tuesday night at the Shawnee Turf.
Cumberlands (6-2-2, 3-1-0 MSC) came out on the offensive — outshooting Shawnee State (7-6-0, 0-3-0 MSC) 16-7 (6-4 shots on goal) in the first half. UC's offensive pressure paid off when
Alejandro Gonzalez scored his sixth goal of the season in the 21' minute, with
Filip Milivojevic tallying his second assist of 2018 on the play. The 1-0 lead did not last long as Cian Broens tied the match at 1-1 with a goal for the Bears in the 23' minute, with Kevin deLange assisting on the play. However, Infantes would respond for UC — scoring what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 31' minute. Gonzalez garnered his first helper of the season on the goal that put the Patriots up 2-1. The scored remained the same going into halftime.
In the second half, Cumberlands continued to have chances as they outshot Shawnee State 14-4 in the period and 30-11 (11-6 shots on goal) in the match. Infantes scored the only goal of the half — his second of the match and fourth of the season — in the 60' minute to make the final score 3-1 in favor of the Patriots.
Kelshall Alexander Jr. garnered his first assist and point in a UC uniform on the play.
Goalkeeper
Clement May (5-2-2) recorded five saves in the win for the Patriots, while Kade Tomlinson made eight stops for the Bears.
Infantes led all players with 13 shots (six on goal) in the match, while Gonzalez had six shots (two on goal).
