Portsmouth, OH – Looking to continue their strong play in Mid-South Conference action the UC women's soccer team blanked the Shawnee State University Bears (3-7-1, MSC 1-2) by a score of 4-0. With the win the Patriots improve to 12-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play for their first 12-win season since the 2008-2009 season.
From the opening kick-off the Patriots looked to get on the board early as
Alanna Skinner tallied a corner kicker, while
Sabria Glasgow fired a couple quick shots but were unable to find the back of the net. In the tenth minute,
Hannah Truckenmiller connected with Glasgow for a goal to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Over the next 20 minutes, UC continued their dominate control of the and outshot the Bears 9-1. The Patriots extend their lead to 2-0 as Glasgow netted an unassisted goal, for her second career multi-goal game, in the 29' minute. The Patriots looked to add to their lead right before half time as Skinner sent a corner kick into the box, which bounced off
Jody LeMaster before finding
Jenna Rockwell for the third goal of the contest to give UC a 3-0 lead into the break.
Coming out of the break, Glasgow looked to score a hattrick after firing off two shots, however neither found the back of the net. In the 63' minute, Cumberlands took advantage of a Bears foul as
Sara Randez sent a free kick into the box to LeMaster who headed in the goal to give UC a 4-0 lead. That goal was a milestone for LeMaster as she is now tied for fifth in all-time career goals with 32. As time continued to run Patriots remained in control of the match outshooting Shawnee 6-2 over the final 25 minutes for the 4-0 final.
Leading the way for the Patriots was Glasgow with two goals, while LeMaster tallied a goal and an assist in the game.
Christie Funk tallied three saves in the match for the eighth shutout of the season.
UC returns to action as host non-conference match against 15th ranked Georgia Gwinett Grizzles Saturday, October 13 kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. Live stats are available
