Malik Colvin-Seldon recorded his first double-double with season-high 20 points and 13 rebounds to pace the 16
th-ranked UC men's basketball team to a 75-54 win over Piedmont International Friday night at the O. Wayne Rollins Center. With the win the Patriots improve to 6-1, while the Bruins fall to 2-3.
Cumberlands was in control of the game right from the start as UC scored the first nine points of the contest, including six from Colvin-Seldon. After a Bruins bucket,
Jordan Griggs netted back-to-back buckets as part of eight unanswered points that gave UC a 16-2 lead with 13:21 remaining. After the teams traded buckets over the next six minutes,
Nnamdi Van Dulm hit a field goal and found
Chance Edwards for a three-pointer to extend UC's lead to 27-13 with 5:00 remaining in the first half.
Bri'an Brown tallied six of the Patriots final eight points of the half to give UC a 35-17 lead at the break.
Piedmont hit the first field goal of the second half, however UC responded with 17-4 run capped off by a bucket from
Jahi Hinson dunk off an assist from
Anthony Eaves to take a 48-24 lead with 12:51 remaining. Piedmont used a 9-2 run, over a two-minute span, to cut the lead to 50-33 midway through the second half. Colvin-Seldon and Eaves combined for the Patriots next 12 points to take a 61-37 advantage. A few minutes later, Edwards connected with Eaves from long-range to give Cumberlands its largest lead of the game 72-42 with 4:09 remaining. The Bruins closed out the game on a 12-3 run for the 75-54 final.
Colvin-Seldon finished with 20 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks, and three steals, while Brown added 13 points and nine rebounds. Eaves chipped in 11 points, while Griggs and Edwards finished with nine apiece.
UC returns to action on Friday, November 23, as they travel to Campbellsville, KY to take part in the Campbellsville Classic. That Patriots will face Allen at 4 p.m. on the 23
rd and Berkeley College at 2 p.m. on the 24
th.
