Allen scored the first four points of the contest before Malik Colvin-Seldon made a free throw as Anthony Eave drained a three-pointer to take the score 4-4 just under two minutes into first half.  The game was tied at three different points before a Chance Edwards three-pointer gave the Patriots their first lead of the game 13-12 five minutes in.  After a Yellow Jacket field goal, Austin Hall and Eaves combined for five straight points giving UC a four point edge two minutes later.  Allen responded with a 11-2 run, over the course of three minutes to take a 25-20 lead with 9:46 remaining. Bri'an Brown tallied UC's next six point, while Nnamdi Van Dulm convert both of his free throws to put the Patriots back in front 28-27. The two teams continued to trade baskets over the next four minutes before the Yellow Jackets got back-to-back layups from Demani Smith and Leroy Williams II to give Allen a 39-33 lead.  Brown was able to find Eaves cutting towards the basket for a layup in the final seconds of the first half to cut the deficit to 39-35 at the break.

Both teams came out strong in the second half trading baskets until Jordan Griggs hit back-to-back three to even the score 43-43 with 18:04 remaining.  Three minutes later, Demetruis Richardson converted a layup to put Allen in front 49-48, however Cumberlands responded with six unanswered to take a 54-49 lead with 13:31 remaining.  The Patriots remain in control from that point on Hinson and Edwards combined for UC's next nine points to extend their lead to 63-55 with midway through the second half.  Two minutes later, Cumberlands got back-to-back fast break layups from Hinson and Edwards to take a 12 point lead, 69-57, their largest of the game.  The Yellow Jackets went on a 12-5 run, over a three minute span, to cut the lead to 74-69 with 5:25 left.  Cumberlands converted five of six from the charity stripe as Eaves and Hunter Bode hit field goals to extend UC's lead to 83-73 with 2:24 remaining.  Allen would end the game on an 8-7 run for the 90-81 final.
