Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Bo Kidd

Post Presence Pushes Patriots to Victory over Bryan

Williamsburg, KY – UC Men's Basketball would use a combination of cutting guards and big men on the block to take down the Bryan College Lions 75-60 on Friday night. The win pushes Cumberlands to 2-1 overall on the year.

The Lions would find their way onto the scoreboard first, but then it was Jordan Griggs who would take over early, going on a 10-0 run himself over the next three minutes to give UC the lead as Bryan would call timeout. After the timeout, the Lions would make a push of their own as they would answer with a 12-4 run of their own to tie the game at 14-14 at the first media timeout.

Out of the timeout, the Patriots would find their stride. Cumberlands would go on an offensive flurry as they went on a 23-2 run to lead 37-16 with four minutes to go in the half. Bryan would be able to put together a couple of baskets together in succession but the Patriots would close out the half up 17 by a score of 39-22.

The second half was a consistent showing by the Patriots once again. A number of fouls would put some Patriots in foul trouble and send the Lions to the line 25 times during the half, but it was not enough to overcome the lead UC has previously built. Cumberlands would lead the entire second half by double digits as they would close out the game with a 75-60 win.

Griggs would lead all scorers on the night with 20 points on 7-9 shooting from the field (4-6 3 PT) along with three rebounds. Malik Colvin-Seldon added 14 points with four rebounds, three steals, a pair of assists, and a block. The duo of Jahi Hinson and Anthony Eaves both chipped 11 points in the win. Hinson tallied nine rebounds and two assists while Eaves would haul in three board and dish out four helpers.

Cumberlands shot 47.5% from the field in the game and 42.9% from beyond the arc. UC outscored Bryan 36-14 in the paint and slightly off turnovers 20-18. Bryan would have more bench presence as they had 27 points coming from non-starters compared to UC's 13. The Lions were led by Austin Douglas with 14 points and five rebounds.

UC returns to action on Monday, November 5th as they host the Lynx of Lindenwood University-Belleville for a non-conference matchup. Last season, UC defeated the Lynx on the road by a score of 88-85. Tip-off is set for 8 pm. You can catch the game live on the UC Sports Network by clicking here.
