Patriots Men’s Basketball Suffers Setback against Berkeley

Campbellsville, KYAnthony Eaves scored at least 20 points in back-to-back games for the second time this season however it wasn't enough as the 16th-ranked UC 16th-ranked UC men's basketball team fell to Berkeley College 62-59 Saturday afternoon at the Powell Athletic Center.  With the win the Knights improve to 3-1, while the Patriots move to 7-2 on the season.

Both teams came out strong as they game was tied twice in the first couple of minutes until Malik Colvin-Seldon found Eaves for a field goal to put UC ahead 7-5.  After four minutes of scoreless basketball, the Patriots netted six straight points, including Bri'an Brown converting a three-point play to extend the lead to 13-5 with 12 minutes remaining.  The Knights responded with a 9-2 run, over of the span of four minutes to cut the lead to 15-14.  Two minutes later Darius Ward hit a three-pointer to put Berkeley back in front however Cumberlands was quick to answer with three straight points from the free throw line to even the game at 20-20 with 5:38 remaining in the first half.  There were five lead changes and two ties over the final minutes but an Eaves shot from long range gave the Patriots a 33-32 edge at the break.

The action continued in the second half with multiple lead changes over the first two minutes until Colvin-Seldon converted a three-point play to give UC a 40-38 lead.  Jahi Hinson tallied six of UC's next nine points to keep Cumberlands in front 49-46 with midway through the second half.  Berkeley went on a 6-0 run before Eaves drained back-to-back jumpers to give the Patriots a 53-52 lead with 6:32 remaining.  The two teams traded baskets to even the score at 55-55, before the Knights closed out the game on a 7-4 run for the 62-59 final.

Eaves finished with 20 points and four rebounds, while Colvin-Seldon chipped in 13 points and six rebounds.  Brown grabbed a team-high 11 boards to go along with seven points and Caleb Taylor notched six points and seven rebounds.
