Balance Scoring Pushes Patriots Past Carver 82-64

Atlanta, Ga – The 16th-ranked UC men's basketball team had four players in double-figure to pace the Patriots to an 82-64 road win over Carver Saturday afternoon.  With the win the Patriots improve to 9-2 overall, while the Cougars fall to 0-13.

Both teams got off to slow starts combining for six points in the first three minutes of the game.  Malik Colvin-Seldon added a field goal to put UC in front 5-3 however Carver tallied five of the next seven points to take an 8-7 lead with 12:59 remaining in the first half.  Chance Edwards drained a three-pointer on UC's next possession, which sparked a 13-0 run, spanning three minutes, to put Cumberlands ahead 20-8 with 9:46 remaining.  The Cougars used a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 22-14 with five minutes left.  After trading baskets over the next three minutes, the Patriots hit three free-throws before Jahi Hinson completed a three-point play to extend UC's lead to 34-22.  UC took a 36-26 lead into the locker room at half.

Carver converted a three-point play to start the second half to make it a seven point game, which was the closest the Cougars got in the second half.  After trading buckets, Hinson and Bri'an Brown drained back-to-back shot to push the lead to 44-33 with 16:08 left. Caleb Taylor notch Cumberlands next five points, before a 6-0 run by UC extended the lead to 54-41 with 12:02 left.  The Patriots outscored Carver 16-10 over the next five minutes to take a 70-51 lead.  A minute later, Taylor found Nnamdi Van Dulm cutting in the lane for back-to-back layups.  Taylor added four more points to extend the lead to 21, however Carver finished the game on a 7-6 run for the 82-64 final.
Leading the way for the Patriots was Colvin-Seldon who tallied a team-high 18 points, while Hinson and Taylor tallied 13 points apiece.  Eaves tallied all 12 of his points in the second half, as Bri'an Brown grabbed ten boards in the first half.
